GOLDEN VOICES

Welcome to Golden Voices, our section on the people who helped Mako-chan go from mute to magnificent. When the Sailormoon anime was created, it introduced a new element that hadn't existed in the manga: SOUND. Where would our beloved Makoto be in an anime series without a voice? Here is some information about the people who spoke Mako's first words.

Shinohara Emi ::: Susan Roman

If you have information about or know the names of Mako's voice actresses in other countries, please E-mail me and share what you know! You will receive credit and a link for your contribution!

SHINOHARA EMI

Shinohara Emi is Sailor Jupiter's seiyuu in the original Japanese anime. (Emi is actually short for Emiko) Ms. Shinohara has done a whole heapin' load of voice acting roles! If I even tried to list them all, my fingers would probably fall off. Some of the roles she has done in Anime series include Sailorjupiter, Furaru Presea from Magic Knight Rayearth, Candy from Iczer-3, Mokuren in Please Save My Earth, Queen Maria Amonias in Victory Gundam, and B-Ko Daitokuji in Project A-ko. She also provided the voice of April O'Neil in the cartoon of Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Ms. Shinohara has had a lot of voice acting roles, and a lot of the time she ends up playing aggressive characters. Her voice has that certain tough but tender-ness to it that makes her such a believable heroine. She can also go the slightly-crazy and zany route, which you'll see glimpses of in her work as Presea in Magic Knight Rayearth. (Presea is one of my fave characters in MKR too! ^_^) If you want to hear her in a way different role than Mako-chan, then check her out in Please Save My Earth or as Natsumi in Mama is a Fourth Grader for a change of pace!

And that's just for TV! You can catch Ms. Shinohara's voice in numerous video games as well! Some of them include Angel Grafitti (for Sony Playstation), Virus (for Sega Saturn), and Master of Monsters (for Playstation again). She also reprises her Anime roles for the game versions of series like Magic Knight Rayearth, and, of course, Sailormoon.

Shinohara-san was born on August 8th, 1963 in Nagano, Japan. For those of you who somehow tuned out the winter months that year, Nagano was the site of the 1998 Winter Olympics! Another neat tidbit is that Ms. Shinohara's blood type is O, just like our friend Kino Makoto. Want to see a picture? CLICK HERE! I think she's kind of pretty, don't you?

SUSAN ROMAN

Susan Roman is the voice actress who provided the voice of Sailorjupiter (Lita) in the North American DiC dub, Sailor Moon. If you're from North America, chances are you've heard Ms. Roman in action before, even whithout knowing it! She's done roles in a whole heapload of American cartoons, and many of them are probably familiar. Ms. Roman voiced such characters as Champ in The Care Bears, Snowy in Tin Tin, Sgt. Ann Lewis in Robocop, and Cucumber in The Busy World of Richard Scarry. You can also hear her at work in the anime known as Ogre Slayer.

Ms. Roman has done a variety of personality types in her roles, but some of them do tend towards the "tough Sailor Jupiter" type of role. One instance is her role in Ogre Slayer, in which she plays a "best friend" kind of role. The character was a dead ringer for Lita, and it's been said that you "could close your eyes and not know the difference."

She has also done some work in film and video, including the role of Debra Harry in the animated film, Rock 'n Rule, The Berry Princess in the Strawberry Shortcake meets the Berry Princess home video, and The Girl in the Harry Canyon sequence of Heavy Metal. (BTW, Heavy Metal is definitely NOT a film for the faint of heart, in my humble opinion)

As a person, Ms. Roman is reportedly quite a bit like our friend Kino Makoto. Her favorite color is GREEN (my favorite color!! Wheee!), she has a real penchant for horses, and she enjoys working in her garden. To see a photo of this talented lady, (even if it does have some yellow type on it :p) click here!
