Moving Picture Show Sailorpluto was the first Outer Senshi to appear in the series, showing up in the place of Chibiusa's Luna-P, during episode 75. Pluto is a dear friend of Chibiusa, and she is the one who talks to Chibiusa through the Luna-P. Pluto also gave Chibiusa the time key which allowed her to travel through time for her mission in the past. In the aforementioned episode, Chibiusa was plagued by nightmares, which prompted the lovely Pluto to appear in a bubble, and deliver an important message: Chibiusa could only be helped if the senshi entered into her dream. The anime reveals little about Setsuna, because she is seldom seen, since she must guard the Gates of Time almost constantly. She basically wears the same two outfits all the time, and seems to have virtually no life of her own beyond her duties as a sailor soldier. She is also rumoured to be hundreds of years old, because she has been guarding the Time Gates since the days of the Silver Millenium. As for what we do know, it's pretty well-established that she works well with the other Outer Senshi, and her previous duties were to help Uranus and Neptune protect the solar system. The Outers are said to have stronger powers than those of the Inners. Another important tidbit involved her forbidden power, Time Stop! We all know that she's not supposed to use that power, so how do we know she has it? She actually did stop time on one particular occasion, in order to save Haruka and Michiru's lives, during episode 124. The rest of the senshi were lead to believe that Pluto was actually dead, punished for using her forbidden power, but she was actually resurrected by Neo-Queen Serenity later on. Between the Pages The Sailormoon anime doesn't give a whole lot of insight about Setsuna, but the original manga gives us more detail about Sailorpluto...and some of it may not be exactly what you would expect! The manga identifies Setsuna as being 18 years old, when she takes on a live on earth! This is interesting, since the general anime belief is that Pluto is hundreds of years old, and that she's kept physically young because of her control over time. The manga also goes on to say that she's also a freshman in university, majoring in theoretical physics. She also dies when she stops time in Act 23 of the manga. Queen Serenity had stated previously that death was the penalty for stopping time, so when Pluto broke this commandment, she paid the price. She is reincarnated later on however, in Act 29, thanks to Neo-Queen Serenity. The manga also bestows several new powers on Sailorpluto that she doesn't have in the anime, such as Chronos Typhoon, which is an attack that makes use of the Garnet Orb, and Garnet Ball, which forms a protective force field. Her henshin phrases also differ slightly from the anime... she says "Pluto Crystal Power, Make up!" to transform into Super Sailor Pluto, and Sailor Star Pluto. She also has her own castle in the manga on her homeworld, known as Charon Castle. Charon is also the name of the moon orbiting around Pluto... take a look at the Planetary Fantasy page for more significant information. There is also more definition to Setsuna's daily life in the manga, since she actually takes on a life more like a normal person's after being reincarnated. At that point, Setsuna lives with Haruka, Michiru, and she helps them care for the reincarnated young baby Hotaru. She also is said to work at Juuban Elementary, where Chibiusa goes to school, in Act 43. |
