Box of Toys

Roger Smith is a slick character with a lot of finesse, but even his sheer force of will can't always do the job alone. He might not be able to help the city in such monumental ways without the help of his amazing array of technological goodies!

Lions and Tigers and Bots! (oh my!)

For times when the crisis gets just a little too large, Roger yells into his wrist communicator, calling for his great big robot friend, Big O.

Big O is a fairly large and tough robot. Its height rivals most of the buildings in Paradigm City, and when Roger calls upon Big O, it goes to him, rising up from underground, and causing a good bit of damage on its way up! And, when the fight is over, it sinks into the ground again, and is gone, leaving nothing but a crater in its wake.

It has several weapons and gadgets at its disposal, some of which include:

  • an extensive arsenal of missiles (four rows of three each) that are launched out of compartments in its torso
  • a piston-like contraption in each of its arms, which provides a sort of "super punch" that can even punch through the enemy bot.
  • machine guns mounted in hidden compartments in its chest region
  • laser beams that shoot from its eyes
  • a cannon in its helmet
  • a panel that can track a remote sensor to help locate anything that is tagged with the sensor

Roger has set up a system for Big O which allows it to move around underground, using a network of old transit system rails. The rails date back to the days before the Event that wiped away everyone's memories.

HOT ROD MAMA

Perhaps crazy kids like you or I might be okay with stomping to work in a giant mecha, but it's a rather unwieldy mode of transport, and people don't take too kindly to being stepped on by a big metal colossus. So, for those times when Roger needs a subtler mode of transport, he hops in his slick automobile, The Griffon.

This is not your ordinary cool set of wheels, however. It has some cool special abilities that help Roger get out of the occasional tight spot:

  • The car is equipped with a device that can pick up radio frequencies, such as the signals sent between members of the military police.
  • In Roger the Negotiator, Roger parks the Griffon at the curb, and then uses a small remote to activate a protective armor, presumably to keep out anyone who might want to try stealing the car.
  • In Beck Comes Back, we see Roger escape from the military police in The Griffon. Upon hearing the police radio description of his "black" car, Roger presses a button, and the black layer seems to be covered by a red paint finish, effectively disguising the car.
  • The car is outfitted with its own arsenal of weapons: machine guns and missiles that can be fired locally or remotely.
WATCH THE TIME

Roger is also equipped with a Dick Tracy-esque wrist communicator, which looks like a normal watch, but allows him to call on Big O in times of crisis. He's also able to communicate with Norman whenever he needs to via the watch, and it even gives him a small visual image of whoever he's talking to.

Other things the watch can do include:

  • The watch is also equipped with a small "grappling hook" kind of device, which is fired out of the watch as a climbing aid.
  • It allows Roger to fire the Griffon's guns and missiles from a remote location
  • It can detect when a missile or other homing weapon is locked onto Roger
LOCK AND LOAD

Roger also has a device that allows him to open locks when necessary. The lockpick looks like your average pen at first glance, but when a clip on it is triggered, a grey strip pops out. By putting the strip into the lock, the grey strip will mold to the shape of the lock, making it into a temporary key, which Roger then uses to open the lock as he would a normal key.
